Theater Station Week 6
If your station requires a written response, save your response in a Writer's Notebook or Word file.
Do not throw away your responses. They are proof of your effort at this station.
This week's work is the same as last week, work with your chosen play group and try to have everyone's goals outlined by the end of this week.

Monday (10/02)
Day 1 of 4 Read/Discuss your play
Get to it! Don't forget NoRedInk, Newsela, and Key Project work!
ActingIf your play is pre-written, select the script from the buttons below and begin practicing.
Wedding Story TextWedding DiscussionThe Unwanted TextThe Unwanted DiscussionFor the three student written plays, select the play you are taking part in and discuss your play's "vision" and goals.
1. What do you want the audience to think about the play? 2. What are the actors doing in the play? 3. What kind of sets, costumes, props, and lighting will the play benefit from? Street Time Explosion Unethical Reality Extreme T.V. ShowThe FamilyPepsi Breakup |
ScriptNow that your 1st Benchmark is behind you, the class becomes a race to finish your play.
If your play is being presented by other students on Nov. 2 your goal is TO BE FINISHED writing your play by the end of this week. If that's you (Wilson, Sajjida, Wardley), then you DO NOT HAVE GRAMMAR OR NEWSELA. Woo hoo for you (Wilson, Sajjida, Wardley!) But we desperately need you to finish writing and typing so we can edit, and begin practicing your plays to make sure they will fill the full 8-11 minutes of a 10-minute play. To that end. Your station is just writing the script and reading aloud your own script to check the length against the 8-11 minute goal. Write! |
Technical TheaterAlright! Here we go!
This week, your goal is to post in a discussion board for your specific play and determine your role as tech for your team. As most teams have 5-6 techies, here are 5 roles that a tech student could focus on for their final. 1. Set Design (1-2 students) 2. Costume Design (1-2 students) 3. Prop Design (1-2 students) 4. Lighting (1-2 students) 5. Sound and projection (1 student) Select your Play from the buttons below to access a discussion board where you can talk with other students in your play about which role you would like to take on as tech for your play. |
Tuesday (10/03)

Not everyone can be backdrop or props. Only one or two techies per job. |
Wednesday (10/04)
Get to it! Don't forget NoRedInk, Newsela, and Key Project work!
ActingTime to do some practicing!
Watch this quick overview on "method" acting. Same as last week, still good practice! The next part of this station requires a partner.
With a partner, act out a scene from the website at the link below. You can cold-read the scene (without emotion) if you like, but for best use of your time, trying to ham it up and get into the character is best. Continue practicing scenes OR continue to find the 10-minute play you will be presenting on Nov. 2.

Script WritingIf you are struggling to start writing, here is a link to a list of scripts that are free to read.
Read a script for a film that you like and get a feeling for how your favorite movie looked before it was on the screen. NOTE: The ones titled "transcript" don't count as screenplay format, that's just the dialogue. Look at the ones titled "draft" for the correct formatting. And here are a few links to good background music for script writing that I have used personally. Good luck in production day!
Remember. If you are worried about writing something awful. Write it. The next thing may well be the best thing you've ever written. Write THROUGH the crap, to get them tomatoes! |
Technical TheaterTime to do some practicing!
Here are a few painting tutorials on getting specific textures that might come in handy as you begin working with your actors to imagine the backdrops they may want to use for their plays. Stage Lighting Basics
